DETROIT - Elementary students from University Preparatory Academy visited Wayne State University this past Thursday, June 12, to participate in a field day on the athletic campus. Over 110 students spent the afternoon with 42 WSU student-athletes who volunteered and helped set up and coordinate the event.
Field day events included kickball, three-legged racing, wiffle ball, bat spin relays, shoe kick contests, golf ball relays, frisbee toss, and tug of war. Lunch was also provided to the students and volunteers.
University Prep Elementary formed a partnership with Wayne State Athletics beginning in the spring of 2007. WSU student-athletes also participated in UPA's annual Celebrity Readers Week in March.
To date, the Wayne State Department of Athletics has completed over 4,367 hours of community service during the 2007-08 academic year.
