ERIE, Pa. - The Wayne State baseball team (5-7, 3-0 GLIAC) won its third straight game, 4-1, at Gannon (2-7, 0-3 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Justin Mazur (Macomb, Mich./De La Salle) pitched five shutout innings to improve to 2-0 on the season. He scattered five hits, walked one and struck out five. Adam Kaminski (Clinton Twp., Mich./Mt. Clemens) also fanned five over the final two innings to record his first save of the year.
Offensively, the Warriors were led by Brett Witczak (Hudsonville, Mich.), who had two hits and two RBI with a run scored, and Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland), who went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Witczak, who reached base four times in the game, was hit by a pitch to start the second inning and came in to score on a base hit by Caleb Dalman (Hudsonville, Mich.).
Wayne State added a run to its total in each of the next two innings on RBI singles by Witczak and Wiseman. Witczak's RBI double in the top of the seventh gave the Warriors a 4-1 lead.
A solo shot to right by Jonathan Dziomba accounted for Gannon's lone run in the bottom of the sixth. GU starter Evan Euler (0-1) gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits over 6.2 innings, walking four with one strikeout.
