Box Score

ERIE, Pa. - The Wayne State baseball team (9-7, 7-0 GLIAC) won the third game of its series at Mercyhurst (12-10, 1-6 GLIAC) by a narrow 3-2 margin Sunday afternoon.

Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.) hit his second home run of the season, and Justin Mazur (Macomb, Mich./De La Salle) won his second straight start as the Warriors won their seventh in a row overall.

Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) put the Warriors on the board first with an RBI single in the fourth inning, plating Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland).

After drawing a one-out walk in the sixth, Wiseman would come in to score on Ranck's home run, giving WSU a 3-0 lead.

A sacrifice fly by John Blike in the bottom of the sixth inning accounted for Mercyhurst's first run of the series. The Lakers nearly mounted a comeback in the seventh, but despite four hits in the frame they only scored once on an RBI single by Jonathan Keppler.

Mazur (3-0) scattered nine hits over 6.1 innings, walking one and striking out three. Josh Lewis (Harper Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North), who recorded the final two outs in the seventh, escaped a bases-loaded jam to earn his first career save.
