Box Score

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Wayne State baseball team (17-10, 13-0 GLIAC) remained unbeaten in conference play following an 8-0 win at Findlay (16-12, 12-3 GLIAC) in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich./Chelsea) was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, matching his career-highs for hits and RBI in a game. Drew Churchward (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Adam Kaminski (Clinton Twp., Mich./Mt. Clemens) contributed two hits apiece, and Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) hit his second home run of the season and scored three times.

Anthony Bass (Trenton, Mich.), who has earned a victory in each of his last four appearances, surrendered just three hits in the complete-game shutout. He walked one and struck out 11 Oilers.

Wayne State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run shot to right center by Wiseman, plating Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) who reached on a bunt single.

The Oiler pitchers kept the Warriors at bay until the fifth, when Churchward's RBI single made it a 3-0 game. A four-run sixth inning highlighted by a two-run single by Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) put the game out of reach.

Cunningham tacked on a run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly, scoring Wiseman.

Bass (5-2) took a perfect game into the fifth inning before surrendering a pair of base hits.

NOTES
Cunningham's only prior three-RBI game was April 13, 2005 against Ashland ... his last three-hit game was March 13, 2006 versus North Dakota ... Churchward, who stole second base in the fifth inning, is a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts this season ... Wayne State's last shutout victory over Findlay was May 9, 2001.
