FINDLAY, Ohio - In Saturday's second game at the University of Findlay (17-12, 13-3 GLIAC), the Wayne State baseball team (17-11, 13-1 GLIAC) suffered its first defeat in conference play this season. Findlay's Jeff Peters hit a walkoff two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, resulting in a 4-2 loss for the Warriors.
Drew Churchward (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) paced the Warrior offense, collecting four of WSU's seven hits in the game. Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) was 1-for-3, hitting his second home run of the day, and drove in both WSU runs.
Wiseman's two-run shot to right erased a 1-0 deficit in the top of the sixth, but an RBI single by Chad Geuy with one out in the bottom of the seventh tied the score. Geuy would later triple in the ninth and score on Peters' game-winning blast.
Wayne State starting pitcher Dane Little (Windsor, Ont./F.J. Brennan Catholic) lasted 7.1 innings, giving up just two runs on five hits. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter. His counterpart, Ryan Rothenbuhler, worked all nine innings to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Warriors and Oilers will play another doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1:00 p.m.
NOTES
Churchward is one of three Warriors to post a four-hit game this season ... Wiseman leads the team with seven multiple-RBI games ... the Warriors had their eight-game stolen base streak snapped ... Wayne State is 14-7 all-time at Findlay.
