DETROIT - Adam Kaminski's (Clinton Twp., Mich./Mt. Clemens) two-run single in the bottom of the seventh propelled the Wayne State baseball team (20-11, 15-1 GLIAC) to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Saginaw Valley State (19-11, 7-7 GLIAC) in the second game of Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader.
With two outs, Kaminski drove the ball up the middle, plating Matthew Williams (Detroit, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) and Drew Churchward (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), to cap off the comeback and improve WSU's record to 7-0 at home this season.
Justin Mazur (Macomb, Mich./De La Salle) improved to 5-0 on the year, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings in relief of Dane Little (Windsor, Ont./F.J. Brennan Catholic), who surrendered three runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings.
A two-run single to center by Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) erased a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the third inning, but solo homers in the fifth by Max Bell and the sixth by Brandon Fanion gave the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.
Scott Martin's (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) leadoff double started the rally in the seventh for Wayne State. After Churchward was hit by a pitch for the third time in the game and Williams reached on a fielder's choice, Wiseman walked to bring up Kaminski with the bases loaded.
Wayne State continues its 13-game homestand this weekend, when 10th-ranked Grand Valley State visits Detroit for four games. Saturday's doubleheader is at 1:00 p.m., while Sunday's twinbill is slated for noon.
NOTES
Wayne State is 50-56 all-time against SVSU ... the Warriors had lost three in a row to the Cardinals entering Wednesday's doubleheader ... Wiseman has 13 RBI in his last five games ... he leads WSU with 10 multiple-RBI games this season ... Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich./Chelsea) recorded his first stolen base of the year in the fourth inning.
