Box Score

DETROIT - Matthew Williams (Detroit, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs scored as the 27th-ranked Wayne State baseball team (25-12) swept the season series with Tiffin (17-20) following Wednesday's 10-4 victory.

Williams' four steals overall Wednesday brought his season total to 24, which leads the GLIAC and is the eighth-best single-season total in WSU history.

The Dragons scored all of their runs over the first two innings, keeping the game close early on after Wayne State posted a six-run first frame.

Back-to-back doubles by Drew Churchward (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Williams to start the bottom of the first tied the score at one apiece. After Williams stole third, he came in on a two-run single by Adam Kaminski (Clinton Twp., Mich./Mt. Clemens).

Consecutive bases-loaded walks to Charie Dunneback (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) and John Skaggs (Adrian, Mich.) made it a 4-1 game, and a two-run double by Churchward capped off WSU's six-run onslaught.

The Dragons scored three times in the bottom of the second to pull within two, but the Warriors tacked on four runs over a three-inning span and the WSU pitchers shut down the Tiffin offense.

RBI singles by Dunneback in the third and Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) in the fourth, along with an unearned run stemming from a Tiffin error, gave the Warriors a 9-4 lead. Wayne State went into double digits as Williams doubled, stole third and came home on another TU miscue.

Tyler Loehr (Brighton, Mich.), one of five pitchers used by Wayne State, improved to 2-0 on the year after tossing 3.1 scoreless innings and surrendering just two walks and two hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Wayne State hosts Northwood this weekend for two GLIAC doubleheaders starting at 1:00 on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
