DETROIT - In the third game of its weekend series, the 27th-ranked Wayne State baseball team (28-12, 21-2 GLIAC) defeated Northwood (19-22, 6-19 GLIAC), 8-3, on Sunday afternoon at the WSU Baseball Field.

Adam Kaminski (Clinton Twp., Mich./Mt. Clemens) went 3-for-4 with a career-best five RBI and his first home run in a Warrior uniform. Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova), Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland), and Brett Witczak (Hudsonville, Mich.) contributed two hits apiece, while Wiseman also scored three runs.

Starting pitcher John Kessick (Niles, Mich.) fanned a season-high eight in 5.2 innings to earn his third win of the season. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, when the Timberwolves scored three unearned runs to spoil the shutout bid.

An RBI double by Kaminski followed by a two-run single by Witczak gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Kaminski's two-run blast to left in the fifth made it a 5-0 game.

Northwood capitalized on a WSU error with two subsequent hits in the sixth to pull within two runs, but Wayne State answered with three scores in the bottom of the frame. Wiseman's RBI single plated Drew Churchward (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), who walked and stole second to start the inning. Kaminski followed with a two-run single, plating Wiseman and LaPensee.

Adding to an already strong performance, Kaminski came over from first base to pitch a scoreless seventh inning.

NOTES
Kaminski is the third Warrior to record a five-RBI game this season, joining Charlie Dunneback (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Wiseman ... LaPensee posted his third straight two-hit game ... Caleb Dalman (Hudsonville, Mich.), who was hit by a pitch for the fourth time this season and 18th time in his career, ranks fifth all-time at WSU in that category ... Matthew Williams (Detroit, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) stole his league-leading 26th base of the year in the third inning.
