DETROIT - Wayne State University junior right-hander Anthony Bass (Trenton, Mich.) has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Bass recorded his first career complete-game shutout in Saturday's 6-0 victory over Mercyhurst. Bass stuck out 11 Laker batters while surrendering only two hits on the afternoon.
He has a 2-2 record with a 3.00 ERA this season. Bass has totaled 47 strikeouts in 33 innings and ranks second in the GLIAC in hits allowed per game (7.09), fourth in runs allowed per game (3.27), and sixth in earned run average (3.00).
Wayne State has non-conference games scheduled this week, a doubleheader at St. Joseph's on Tuesday and a nine-inning contest Wednesday at Western Michigan. The Warriors will host Hillsdale in GLIAC action next weekend.
