ARLINGTON, Ohio - The Wayne State golf team is in second place through round one of the Outback Steakhouse Invitational, hosted by the University of Findlay, at Sycamore Springs Golf Course.
The Warriors posted a team score of 300 on Friday, one stroke behind the first-place Oilers (299). Ferris State (304), Ashland (305), and Northwood (307) comprise the rest of the top five.
Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) led the field with an even-par 72 in the opening round. Brett Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) finished two strokes back (74) in a tie for fourth.
Joe Jusczcyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) and Eric Johnson (Marquette, Mich.) shot 77 to tie for 22nd, and Michael Wouters (Sterling Hts., Mich./Henry Ford II) is in a tie for 30th with a score of 78.
Playing individually, Jack Mitroka (Riverview, Mich.) carded a 75 to tie for 10th, Peter Farner (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) is tied for 30th with 78, Bryan Lynch (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) shot 80 to tie for 45th, and John Francisco (Troy, Mich./Athens) posted a score of 81 to tie for 52nd.
The Outback Invitational will conclude Saturday.
