NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - After the opening round of the third Great Lakes Regional event of the season Sunday afternoon at Purgatory Golf Course, Wayne State is in second place, two over par and eight strokes behind leader Grand Valley State.
The Warriors, who entered the weekend ranked fourth in the region, posted a team score of 290. The Lakers topped the 19-team field with 282, while Findlay (293), Northern Kentucky (294) and Wisconsin-Parkside (298) comprised the rest of the top five.
Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) and Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) each shot a one-under par 71 to tie for fifth place. Brett Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) carded a 73 to tie for 16th, Eric Johnson (Marquette, Mich./M) shot 75 to tie for 30th, and Michael Wouters (Sterling Hts., Mich./Henry Ford II) is in 90th following a first-round score of 84.
The regional will conclude Monday.
