TAYLOR, Mich. - The Wayne State men's hockey team (6-17-2, 2-7-0 CHA) earned a 2-0 victory over Alabama-Huntsville (3-14-2, 0-7-2 CHA) at the Taylor SportsPlex on Friday night.

It marked Wayne State's first shutout win since a 4-0 result against UAH on March 5, 2005.

WSU goaltender Brett Bothwell (Red Deer, Alb./Yorkton Terriers) made history as well, not only by earning his first career shutout but by notching an assist on the Warriors' second goal of the game. He became just the second netminder in school history to earn a helper, as David Guerrera did it twice previously - March 7, 2002 against Niagara and October 26, 2002 versus St. Lawrence.

Tylor Michel (Sudbury, Ont./Owen Sound Saugeen Greys) and Jared Katz (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Baystate Breakers) had two points apiece, and Mike Forgie (Scarborough, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) netted the game-winner in the first period.

Katz sent a pass from the corner to Forgie in front of the net, who fired a quick shot past UAH goaltender Blake MacNicol at the 7:16 mark.

With under four minutes to go in the middle stanza, Bothwell cleared the puck out to Michel on the left boards, who then fired a pass around the defensive zone to Katz on the opposite side. Katz skated up and found Michel charging in up the middle, who blasted a slap shot into the top corner.

Michel has a three-game point streak and seven points in the last five contests.

Wayne State finished with a 20-15 advantage in shots on goal and held Alabama-Huntsville scoreless in six power-play opportunities.

The Warriors and Chargers will face off at the SportsPlex again on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
