DETROIT - Wayne State senior forward Derek Bachynski (Belle River, Ont./Leamington Flyers) was named College Hockey America Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore defenseman Jeff Caister (Mississauga, Ont./Milton Icehawks) earned CHA Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Bachynski recorded five points on three goals and two assists in WSU's split at Alabama-Huntsville. His Saturday points (two goals and one assist) came on three consecutive Warrior goals. With Wayne State trailing 1-0, he scored back-to-back goals then assisted on the game-winner. The next afternoon, WSU fell behind 2-0, but Bachynski scored a power-play goal then assisted on the next marker to knot the game at two. He had a +3 plus/minus rating for the weekend set.
Caister was part of a Warrior defense that limited Alabama-Huntsville to 44 shots on goal in 120 minutes and one power-play goal in six chances. He also contributed offensively with three assists. He assisted on WSU's first two goals in Saturday's triumph and the Warriors' first goal on Sunday.
Wayne State is idle this weekend before traveling to Bemidji State for a series Feb. 29-Mar. 1.
