Decatur, Ala. - The 20th-ranked Wayne State University softball team (2-2 overall) claimed a 4-2 victory over Indianapolis Sunday afternoon at the Charger Chillout in dramatic fashion.
Senior catcher Sarah Berry drilled a two-out three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh giving the Warriors the come-from-behind victory.
WSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Lindsey Perry had a leadoff double, and Berry had a one-out double to left plating Perry.
The Greyhounds tied the score in the top of the fourth on a walk, hit by pitch, a walk and a sacrifice fly.
UI went ahead 2-1 in the top of the seventh as Jamie Keltz had a two-out single then stole second. She scored on a double down the left field line by Jessica Breeden.
In the bottom of the seventh, pinch-hitter Robyn Haig singled. After a failed bunt attempt, Perry had a one-out single to right advancing pinch-runner Lisa Seymour to second. Following a strikeout, Berry blasted a three-run shot to left center.
WSU senior pitcher Molly Yetman struck out 12 for the second consecutive day and is 2-0 on the season. Indy hurler Meagan Gutierrez struck out five.
The Warriors play an in-region doubleheader at Quincy on Friday.
