Edwardsville, Ill. - The Wayne State University softball squad (2-4 overall) dropped its second game of the opening day of the Cougar Classic, 11-7, to Southern Indiana (4-5).

The Screaming Eagles scored the first 11 runs of the contest before a late Warrior rally came up short. Five WSU errors led to nine unearned runs for Southern Indiana.

USI scored once in the top of the first and added six runs in the third knocking out WSU starter Molly Yetman, although all seven runs were unearned.

Wayne State scored five in the bottom of the fifth and added two more in the seventh.

Sarah Teller started the fifth with a single to right and Laura Guzman followed with an infield single. After an out, Amanda Van't Wout doubled in both runner and Sarah Berry drilled a two-run shot to left. It was Berry's 11th career home run moving into ninth place on WSU's all-time list despite being in just her third season in the Green and Gold.

After another out, Katie Golud doubled with Stephanie LeClair's double scoring pinch-runner Laura Maiorana.

In the seventh after the first two batters were retired, LeClair, Meredith Boxberg and Teller all singled scoring LeClair. Guzman's single plated Boxberger.

Teller and Guzman each had three hits for WSU with LeClair, Robyn Haig and Van't Wout each having two hits.

WSU is scheduled to play Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday morning.
