Lakeland, Fla. - The Wayne State University softball team (5-8 overall) dropped the second game of Monday's doubleheader at Florida Southern (14-3) by a 6-3 score.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead when three of the first four WSU batters singled in the first inning to produce a run. Lindsey Perry singled as did Sarah Berry and Robyn Haig.

However, the Mocs tied the game in the bottom of the second when Angela Williams reached on an infield single, took second on a throwing error during the same play, and came home when Peggy Alex singled just over a back-handed attempt by second baseman Lisa Seymour.

Williams came up with an even bigger hit in the third inning. With two out and two on, Williams hit a ball into the right centerfield gap for a triple that gave the Mocs a 3-1 lead.

Florida Southern picked up three more runs in the fourth inning, a two-out rally started by Sara Lovestrand's double to deep left. Michelle Tatlock's single brought in one run, and two more scored on a dropped pop fly in short center with two out.

Heidi Schumacher earned the win for the Moccasins, improving to 6-1 by working around 10 Wayne State hits. All of them were singles though and Schumacher did not issue any walks. Only one of the three runs she allowed was earned.

Lauren Warkentien started for WSU and allowed three runs (two earned) in three innings. Nicole Abel pitched the final three innings surrendering one earned run (three total) on three hits.

Perry went three-for-four while Meredith Boxberger had two hits. Perry, Haig and Seymour each had RBI.
