Final Stats

Ashland, Ohio - The Wayne State University softball squad (16-9 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) won its eighth consecutive contest, and fourth in a row by shutout, with a 1-0 triumph at Ashland University (9-9 overall, 1-3 GLIAC) in Sunday's second game of a GLIAC doubleheader.

The lone run in the contest came in the bottom of the sixth as Amanda Van't Wout had a leadoff single and Sarah Berry followed with an infield single. Meredith Boxberger advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt and following a strikeout and an intentional walk to Stephanie LeClair, Lisa Seymour singled in Van't Wout.

Nicole Abel started in the circle for the Green and Gold and allowed seven hits in 4.2 innings before getting relief help from Molly Yetman. With two outs and two runners on in the top of the fifth, Yetman induced a ground out, then retired six of AU's final seven batters to earn the win.

Abel struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Notes:

Yetman won her eighth straight decision by striking out two in 2.1 innings. Her 425 strikeouts at WSU is fourth all-time, just two behind Amy Thiede's (2000-03) mark of 427.

Van't Wout and Berry each had two hits for the Warriors.

Banton extended her hitting streak to five games, the longest active streak on the squad.

Lindsey Perry moved into fourth place on WSU's all-time defensive putouts list surpassing current student assistant coach Sarah Kish (816/2004-07) and Krystal Matesic (818/1992-94). Perry has 820 career putouts.
