DETROIT - The Wayne State University softball team (22-10 overall, 9-0 GLIAC) rallied from a 2-0 deficit and held on for a 6-5 triumph over visiting Northwood University (14-18 overall, 3-6 GLIAC) in the first game of a conference doubleheader Wednesday at WSU.

The Warriors pulled within 2-1 in the bottom of the third as Lindsey Perry drew a one-out walk and was safe at second on a fielder's choice. Sarah Berry then laced a 3-2 offering up the middle scoring Perry.

In the bottom of the fifth, WSU took the lead the for good by scoring four times. Jaci Banton had a leadoff single and advanced to second when the left fielder misplayed the ball. After a lineout, Amanda Van't Wout walked on a 3-2 pitch and Berry was walked on five pitches to load the bases. A fielder's choice left the bases loaded with two outs, but Robyn Haig cleared the bases with a three-run double to left center. Stephanie LeClair followed with an RBI single up the middle plating Haig.

Wayne State added an important insurance run in the sixth as Lisa Seymour had a leadoff walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Seymour moved to third on a ground out and the relay throw to third was wild allowing Seymour to score WSU's sixth run.

In the top of the seventh, the Timberwolves scored three times on three hits and two WSU errors. Nicole Abel relieved starter Molly Yetman with the bases loaded and one out. After the first batter reached on an error, Abel turned a comebacker into an out at the plate then struck out Laura Bettcher to end the game.

Robyn Haig and Sarah Berry each had two hits for the Warriors with Haig driving in three runs.

Yetman struck out nine in 6.1 innings to improve to 18-2, while Abel recorded the final two outs for her first save of the season. Carley Gueldenzopf started for Northwood and allowed four runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings with one strikeout and five walks. Jessica Wojcik pitched the final 1.2 innings allowing two earned runs.
