DETROIT - The Wayne State University softball team (23-11 overall, 10-1 GLIAC) suffered its first conference loss of the season with a 2-0 setback against visiting Saginaw Valley (21-10 overall, 6-3 GLIAC) in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.

The Cardinals scored two unearned runs in the top of the fourth against WSU hurler Molly Yetman. Nicole Laakso walked leading off the inning and following a strikeout pinch-hitter Mallory Miller reached on a fielding error. After a pop out, Kim Sills doubled to right field scoring pinch-runner Cassidy Baker and Ashley Jordan (who re-entered for Miller).

The Warriors stranded six runners in the contest and went 0-for-13 with runners on base.

Meredith Boxberger and Lisa Seymour accounted for the WSU hits with two apiece.

Yetman struck out seven and walked two while allowing three hits to fall to 18-3. Stacy Kraatz improved to 10-3 by limiting the Warriors to four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
