Final Stats

Allendale, Mich. - The Wayne State University softball team (29-14 overall, 16-4 GLIAC) finished the GLIAC portion of its 2008 campaign with a 9-0 loss in five innings at Grand Valley (27-12 overall, 12-6 GLIAC) in Saturday's second game. Despite the setback, WSU tied Ferris State for the GLIAC regular-season title at 16-4.

For the Warriors, it was their third consecutive either outright or co regular-season league title. WSU was the outright champion in 2007 and shared the crown with Northwood in 2006. Wayne State also claimed first place in 2002, while earning runner-up honors in 2003 and 2004 (had the most wins, but not the highest winning percentage).

The Lakers scored eight runs (seven unearned) in 2.2 innings off Warrior starter Lauren Warkentien (East China, Mich./Marine City) as WSU committed six errors in the contest. Nicole Abel (Kitchener, Ont.) tossed the final 2.1 innings allowing two hits and an unearned run.

GVSU starter Stephanie Cole went the distance limiting Wayne State to three hits.

Stephanie LeClair, Sarah Teller and Laura Maiorana each had singles for WSU.

The Warriors conclude the regular-season with a doubleheader at cross-town rival Detroit Mercy on Tuesday.

The GLIAC tournament pairings will be determined following two make-up doubleheaders on Sunday, April 27.
