Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University softball team (30-14) recorded a 5-0 win over Gannon University (27-22) in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament Friday afternoon at Emerson Park in Midland.

WSU senior Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont.) scattered four hits and faced only 26 batters in recording the shutout. She struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont.) led off the bottom of the second with a walk. Meredith Boxberger's (Plymouth, Mich.) sacrifice bunt moved Haig to second. Following a strikeout, Sarah Teller (Chesterfield, Mich.) doubled down the left field on an 0-2 pitch scoring Haig with the game's first run. Amanda Van't Wout (Guelph, Ont.) then clobbered an 0-1 offering over the left field fence for her first home run of the campaign.

In the bottom of the third, Lindsey Perry (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy) had an infield single in the hole at short leading off the frame. Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont.) drilled a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence for her second home run of the season.

After a one-out single in the third by GU's Jaclyn Corroto, Yetman retired nine straight until Hannah Koenig reached on an error in the sixth. After a single by Casee Pique, Yetman retired the next two batters.

Six different Warriors had hits off Gannon pitcher Kelsey Brickman (7-6).

Yetman improves to 23-5 with her ninth shutout of the season.
