Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University softball squad (33-15 overall) forced the "if neccessary" championship game of the 2008 GLIAC tournament with an 8-2 triumph over Saginaw Valley (33-15 overall) Sunday morning at Emerson Park in Midland.

The Cardinals scored twice in the top of the second as Vanessa Briggs singled and Jordan Stuart homered to left.

The Warriors answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Robyn Haig reached on an error and moved to second on Lisa Seymour's sacrifice bunt. Sarah Teller's single to right advanced Haig to third where she scored on a wild pitch. Stephanie LeClair's ground-rule double to left center plated Teller with the tying run.

In the third, Lindsey Perry reached base as her liner to left went off Marsha Beaubien's glove for a two-base error. After Amanda Van't Wout walked, Sarah Berry's sacrifice bunt advanced both runners. Haig singled to right on an 0-2 pitch plating Perry.

WSU then tacked on four runs in the fourth. LeClair reached on a third strike passed ball. Jaci Banton greeted relief pitcher Jade Fulton with a single down the right field line. After a fielder's choice, Perry doubled down left field line scoring Banton. Lauren Warkentien scored when Van't Wout's batted ball went through the third baseman's legs then was misplayed by Beaubien. Berry delivered an RBI single to left on a 3-2 offering scoring Perry. Van't Wout then scored on Haig's RBI groundout.

The game's final run came as Perry led off the bottom of the sixth with a blast to left center.

WSU senior pitcher Molly Yetman improved to 26-5 (one win shy of the WSU single-season mark) by limiting the Cardinals to four hits. She struck out nine and walked one.

SVSU starter Stacy Kraatz allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits in three innings. Fulton surrendered four runs (one earned) in two innings on five hits.

Perry went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Haig also had two RBI. LeClair had two hits and an RBI.
