March 26, 2008
Wayne State University senior pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont.) has been selected GLIAC Pitcher of the Week. The first player and pitcher of the week take into consideration all games played through March 23.
Yetman is currently 10-2 with a 0.65 earned-run average. She has 101 strikeouts in 75 innings while allowing only 36 hits. Opponents are batting .143 against her and she has recorded four shutouts including a no-hitter of Shippensburg in which she struck out a season-high 14 batters.
Her only setbacks are to Southern Indiana and Florida Southern. In the USI contest, WSU errors led to seven unearned runs, while versus the Moccasins, Yetman allowed a two-run single with one out in the bottom of the seventh in a 2-1 defeat.
Yetman also has wins over the last two national champions: she beat Lock Haven's Kristin Erb (2-1 in nine innings only allowing the international tie breaker runner to score) on March 11, and two days later shutout SIU-Edwardsville.
Wayne State has been idle since compiling a 7-1 mark in its final eight games of its spring break trip. The Warriors are slated to start GLIAC play this weekend with doubleheaders at Findlay (Saturday) and Ashland (Sunday).
