Wayne State University senior catcher Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont.) was GLIAC Player of the Week by the conference office after batting .643 last week as the Warriors won all four games.
Berry had a multiple-hit game in all four contests last week extending her streak of multiple-hit games to six. She went 5-7 in the sweep of Hillsdale on April 2 with five RBI, two doubles, three runs scored and a walk. In the two Sunday wins over Lake Superior, Berry went 4-7 with five RBI, a double and two home runs (both in the nightcap).
In game one vs. Hillsdale, she had a two-run single with WSU leading 6-2, In game two, she doubled in the first run of the game in the top of the first then scored to make it 2-0. In the third, she singled in a run to make it 3-0 then scored to make it 5-0.
In the first game vs. LSSU, she singled in the first inning to drive in the first run of the game. Two innings later, she had a leadoff double and scored to make it 3-1. In the nightcap, WSU trailed 3-2 in the top of the fifth with a runner on and two outs before Berry smacked a home run to left to put WSU ahead for good. With the Warriors ahead 6-3 in the seventh, Berry hit her second two-run homer of the game.
She has a current seven-game hitting streak and is ninth in the GLIAC in hitting (.379). Berry ranks tied-for-first in doubles (11) and home runs (4), third in RBI (25) and total bases (59), tied-for-fourth in hits (36) and fifth in slugging percentage (.621).
Wayne State will take a 12-game winning streak into Wednesday's non-league doubleheader at Ferris State.
