Midland, Mich. - Five Wayne State University softball players were named to All-GLIAC teams as announced today following the first set of games at the 2008 GLIAC Tournament being held at Emerson Park in Midland.
Senior pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont./Glenview Park S.S.) was voted GLIAC Pitcher of the Year by the conference coaches as well as First Team All-GLIAC. She compiled an 11-3 GLIAC record with a 0.84 earned-run average in 14 appearances. Yetman tossed four league shutouts and shared another three. She struck out a league high 103 batters in 74.2 innings in helping the Warriors to a share of the GLIAC regular-season title.
Senior catcher Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont.) was voted to the All-GLIAC First Team as the catcher. She played in WSU's first 19 league contests and batted .407 (24-59) with 19 RBI (second highest in the GLIAC) along with a .644 slugging percentage and a .470 on-base percentage. She had five walks and only one strikeout in 66 plate appearances.
Senior first baseman Lindsey Perry (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy) was voted to the All-GLIAC Second Team. She batted .328 (20-61) while starting all 20 conference games. Perry had a team-high six doubles in league play and recorded a .406 on-base percentage.
Named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention squad were junior second baseman Lisa Seymour (Davison, Mich.) and sophomore shortstop Jaci Banton (Richmond Hill, Ont./Cardinal Carter).
Banton batted .333 (16-48) in league play and scored 12 runs, while starting all 20 games. She had four walks and four strikeouts while recording six RBI.
Seymour hit .269 (14-52) with 11 RBI and a .365 slugging percentage. Defensively she committed just one error and had a .984 fielding percentage.
