INDIANAPOLIS - The Wayne State women's swimming and diving team remained in first place through the second day of competition at the 2008 GLIAC Championship in Indianapolis.
The Warriors have 333 points, 84 ahead of Grand Valley State. The host Greyhounds are in third with 194 points.
In the first event of the day, the Wayne State divers swept the top three spots on the one-meter board. Erika Barczak (Williamston, Mich.) won with a score of 366.45, followed by Cassie Chetosky (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica) in second (364.05) and Meghan Jaworski (Dundee, Mich.) in third (323.85).
The 200 freestyle relay quartet of Agata Zalewska (Swietochlowice, Poland), Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich.), Haintso Rakouth (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage), and Maria Johnston (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) came in third place (1:39.84).
Four Warriors who qualified for the A final of the 500 free - Ashley St. Andrew (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison), Catherine Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern), Melissa Duff (Howell, Mich./Brighton), and Abbey Green (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn) - finished third through sixth, while Natalia Buso (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Oswald) took 10th place in the B final.
Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) won the 200 individual medley, achieved an NCAA "A" qualifier, and broke her own school record by .45 seconds.
Danaher and Zalewska placed 11th (24.97) and 14th (25.33), respectively, in the 50 free.
Wrapping up Thursday's action was the 400 medley relay combination of Franklin, Hogle, Zalewska, and Green, which took first place with a time of 3:58.45.
The conference meet will continue Friday morning with a preliminary round at 10:30 a.m. before the finals at 6:00 p.m.
