INDIANAPOLIS - For the third consecutive year, the Wayne State swimming and diving team won the GLIAC Championship. The Warriors totaled 800 points, 161 points ahead of runner-up Grand Valley State (639).

The hosts from Indianapolis placed third (483), followed by Ashland (402), Lewis (356), Gannon (322.5), Hillsdale (251.5), Northern Michigan (179), and Findlay (178).

Erika Barczak (Williamston, Mich.) and Cassie Chetosky (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica) went one-two in the three-meter diving with scores of 448.60 and 393.80, while Meghan Jaworski (Dundee, Mich.) placed fifth (331.40).

Ashley St. Andrew (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) successfully defended her title in the 1000 freestyle (10:25.31), and Catherine Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) placed second (10:28.84) while besting her previous national "B" qualifying time, as did Melissa Duff (Howell, Mich./Brighton) with a fourth-place time of 10:33.16. Abbey Green (Dearborn, Mich.), Maggie Young (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne's), and Natalia Buso (Sao Paulo, Brazil) finished eighth through 10th.

In the 200 backstroke, Sara Franklin (Caro, Mich.) placed third (2:12.37), and Haintso Rakouth (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) finished fourth and eclipsed the NCAA "B" cut in the 100 freestyle (53.69) while Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich.) came in sixth (54.13).

Jodi Scott (Windsor, Ont./Riverside S.S.), who set a school record and made an NCAA "B" cut in the preliminary 200 breaststroke (2:25.58), took third in the final swim (2:28.02) and Maria Johnston (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) came in eighth (2:38.30).

Laura Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) and Agata Zalewska (Swietochlowice, Poland) went two-three in the 200 butterfly. Leix earned a "B" cut while Zalewska bested her previous "B" qualifier. In the B final, Young came in 10th (2:14.15).

Wrapping up the meet, the 400 freestyle relay of Rakouth, Catherine Leix, Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) and Danaher posted a third-place time of 3:35.59.

Several Warriors will compete at the NCAA Championship in Columbia, Mo., Mar. 12-15.
