Wayne State sophomore Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) was named the GLIAC Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year, and head coach Sean Peters earned his third consecutive Women's Swimming Coach ofthe Year award after guiding the Warriors to their third straight GLIAC Championship.
Hogle is the first WSU female swimmer to earn this accolade, while Peters joins Indianapolis' Gary Kinkead, Northern Michigan's Chris Coraggio, and NMU's Anne Goodman James as the only coaches to garner the Women's Coach of the Year award three years in a row.
Hogle won the 200 individual medley for the second straight year, eclipsing the NCAA "A" qualifying standard and breaking her own school record with a time of 2:07.58.
She also won the 400 IM and made a national "A" cut (4:32.21) while placing third in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.14). In addition, she was a part of four successful relays including the first place, "A" qualifying, and school-record setting 200 medley relay (1:47.52).
Peters, a six-time GLIAC Men's Coach of the Year (2002-07), was previously honored on the women's side in 2006 and 2007 after leading the Warriors to their first two conference championships in school history.
Wayne State will have several representatives competing at the NCAA Championship in Columbia, Mo., Mar. 12-15.
