University Center, Mich. - The Wayne State women's tennis team reached the .500 mark with a 5-4 non-conference dual match win over Saginaw Valley State University at the PE Club on Saturday afternoon. With the win, WSU moves to 10-10 while SVSU finishes its season with a 7-12 mark.

WSU fell behind early dropping 2-of-3 doubles matches. The No. 1 freshman tandem of Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont./Academie Ste. Cecile) and Milena Vuksanovic (Pancevo, Serbia/Uros Predic Secondary School) were the lone Warrior bright spot as they defeated Katie Hanover and Danielle Coldren, 8-1.

However, the Warriors were able to rally in singles play taking 4-of-6 matches to seal the 5-4 victory. Gill had no problem at the No. 1 position shutting out Hanover, 6-0, 6-0, to extend her unbeaten streak to seven matches. Sophomore Meghan Luzod (Royal Oak, Mich./Dondero) recorded a straight set victory over Cortney Heileman, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot while freshman Deby Correa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Padre Eustaquio) upended Jessica Stone, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5. Junior Sargam Bhatt (Canton, Mich./Taylor Truman) also took out Kathleen Farah, 6-3, 6-0, at the No 6 slot.

The Warriors return home with a non-conference dual match against Division I opponent Oakland on Tuesday, April 1 at 2:00 p.m.
