Women's Swimming Sets Pool Record, Falls to Ohio

CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's swimming team fell to visiting Ohio, 38-56, Friday evening at the O'Conner Sports Center on Xavier's campus. The highlight of the meet was the pool-record setting performance from the Musketeers' 200 freestyle relay team (1:38.67). "The team competed great today," said head coach Steve Riegler following today's competition. "We had some people really step up with some great swims including Sarah Weichelt in the 50 and 100 free, Bethanie Griffin in the 50 free, Kari Peglar in the 400 free and our 200 free relay of Alison Johnson, Elaina Suba and Alissa Schriner along with Weichelt set a pool record." Freshman Sarah Weichelt finished first in the 100 freestyle event with a time of 53.51 while sophomore Kelsey Burns touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.15). Freshman Kari Peglar also added a first-place finish for the Musketeers by taking the 400 freestyle event with a time of 3:58.99. Weichelt teamed up with junior Alissa Schriner and sophomores Alison Johnson and Elaina Suba to turn in the pool-record setting time of 1:38.67 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Up next for the women's swim team is a dual meet versus Butler Saturday, Feb. 2, at the O'Conner Sports Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will wrap up the Musketeers' regular season schedule. Five senior members of the Xavier men's and women's swim teams will be recognized. Seniors Lindsay Jackson, Matt Krouse, Mary Kuhnen, Nico Lilly and Brian Stromberg will be recognized for their contributions and accomplishments while members of the Xavier swim teams. |
