Two Freshmen Bring Home School-Records at the Gladstein Invitational

CINCINNATI - Three school records were broken as the Xavier University men's and women's track teams competed Saturday at the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. The Musketeers had a standout performance after not competing in over a month.

Freshman Michael McManus highlighted the men's side breaking his own school record in the high-jump at 1.95m. The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Clinton Womack, freshmen Sam Lewis and Ben Nathan, and junior Dan Magness also established a new school-record recording a time of 3:28.17.

On the women's squad freshman Courtney Whalen had a standout day turning in a 36.2 in the shot-put which is the best distance in school-history.

Other notable performances on the men's team include Magness and freshman Ryan Ulmer who turned in times of 53.44 and 53.68 respectively in the 400-meter dash. Senior Ben Milroy recorded an impressive 5K time of 15:16.34 while sophomore Drew Kaiser and Joe Ryan ran personal-bests in the event in times of 15:32.15 and 16:29.93.

Four Xavier men crossed the finish line of the 800-meter run in 2:02 or less including freshman Tyler Fry in 2:00.7 and junior Clinton Womack in 1:55.87, earning eighth place.
 

 

Sophomore Bethany Moore and senior Tomilyn Thornberry had a personal-best times of 5:16.74 and 5:37.41 respectively in the one-mile run while junior Becky Clark ran a league and personal-best time of 4:58.37 in the same event. Freshman Christina Schneider had a standout 5K time of 18:03.99 while junior Danna Deans recorded a time of 1:01.91 in the 400-meter dash.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Deans, senior Cecelia Towns, Clark, and sophomore Kate Phillips turned in a time of 4:12.24.

Xavier will return to Bloomington, Ind. to compete at the Indiana Relays next Saturday, February 2. The meet is currently set to start at 9:00 a.m.
