Track Breaks Six Records at Oliver Nikoloff Invitational

CINCINNATI - The Xavier University men's and women's track teams competed Saturday at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational at the University of Cincinnati's Gettler Stadium. The Musketeers broke four individual records and made school history in the men's and women's 4x100 relays.

 

Sophomore Derek LeBlanc tied the long jump record at 6.59m and set a new record in the triple-jump in 12.99m. LeBlanc ran the second leg of the record-breaking 4x100-meter relay team with freshmen Ryan Ulmer, Sam Lewis and junior Dan Magness turning in a time of 44.34. Ulmer also ran a school-best 23.65 in the 200-meter dash.

 

Junior Clinton Womack earned fifth in the 800-meter run in 1:54.56. Freshmen Ben Nathan and Sam Lewis and junior Luke Beuerlein ran personal-best times in the event in times of 1:57.69, 1:58.66, and 1:58.79, respectfully. Other noteworthy finishes came from senior Tony Matheus and freshman Tommy Kauffmann in the 3,000-meter steeplechase who finished in times of 10:12.81 and 10:13.87.


 

 

 

On the women's side junior Danna Deans broke the 200-meter dash record in 27.49. Deans also ran the first leg of the 4x100-meter relay team who changed the record books along with senior Cecelia Towns, sophomore Kate Phillips and junior Ashley Stick in 53.38.

 

Freshman Christina Schneider finished the 5,000-meter run in 17:48.42, earning eighth. Sophomore Bethany Moore (18:39.08), senior Tomilyn Thornberry (19:21.07), freshman Courtney Lucas (20:46.07), and junior Katie Wetterau (20:51.76) ran personal-best times in the 5K race.

 

XU will return to action Saturday, April 12 when they compete at the Boston-Moon Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
