NCAA Honors Six Xavier University Athletic Teams For Academic Achievement

CINCINNATI - - The NCAA has recognized six Xavier athletic programs with Public Recognition Awards for academic excellence of their student-athletes in information released this week. The award is given to the top ten percent of the teams in each sport based on the NCAA Academic Progress rate. The APR is a term-by-term progress for every student-athlete in Division I athletics. "We are very proud of our student-athletes for their achievements both on the field and in the classroom," said Xavier University Associate Vice President and Athletic Director Mike Bobinski. "Our APR performance reflects the successful efforts of our faculty, academic advisors, coaches and student-athletes." The Xavier teams who earned accolades include: men's basketball, men's swimming, women's cross country, women's tennis, women's indoor track, women's outdoor track. In fact, men's swimming, women's cross country, women's tennis, women's indoor track and women's outdoor track are not only returning team honorees but all five teams scored perfect 1,000 APR ratings for the second straight year. All six of this year's team honorees for Xavier scored in the 90-100th percentile in their respective sports, while six more scored in the 80-90th percentile range, including baseball, men's golf, men's tennis, men's indoor and outdoor track and women's swimming.
Xavier had 17 of its 18 sports score better than the national average. |
