Box Score

CINCINNATI - The Xavier baseball team took Cincinnati to extra innings but the Bearcats' walk-off two-run home run ended the game as XU lost, 6-4, in the 11th inning. Junior Sean Farrell went 2-for-4 for the Musketeers and scored two of XU's four runs on the night.

Xavier (16-21) got the scoring started with a run in the fourth after three consecutive Musketeer singles loaded the bases. Senior Danny Hayden hit into a double play but Farrell was able to come home for the early 1-0 Xavier lead.

The Musketeers put up three more runs in the fifth after freshman Ryan Bellamy singled up the middle and junior Adam Pasono singled through the left side. Both runners were moved on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Drew Schmidt and Bellamy was able to score on a sac fly out by junior Steve Brown. Sophomore Bobby Freking's double was responsible for knocking in the other two runs as as Pasono and Farrell scored on the play as XU took the 4-0 lead.

Cincinnati (23-14) got two runs back in both the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at four runs apiece. A two-run homer by the Bearcats' designated hitter accounted for UC's two runs in the fifth while a single and a sac fly were behind the runs scored in the sixth.

Both teams battled through four more scoreless innings before UC's Kevin Johnson sent a two-run long ball over the right center fence for the walk-off home run to end the game in extra innings with Cincinnati on top, 6-4.

Senior Kyle Cowden (1-1) took the loss for Xavier after giving up the game-winning runs. Starter junior Brett Greenwell tossed six innings while striking out one and walking one. Juniors Joe Kohler and Jordan Conley also saw action on the mound as well.

Geglein (2-0) got the win for Cincinnati after striking out two batters while walking two over 3.2 innings of work.

Xavier returns to action Tuesday night with a trip to Muncie, Ind., for a midweek match up with Ball State. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
