Men's Soccer Team Helps Out at Special Olympics for Second Year In-a-Row

May 7, 2008

CINCINNATI - The men's soccer team volunteered at the Warren and Butler County Special Olympic Track Meet for the second year in-a-row on Saturday, May 3 at Lakota East High school.  The team helped athletes at events and gave out medals to the winners.

"It is extremely important to me for our team to help out in the community whenever we can," said head coach Dave Schureck. "It is an essential part of our student-athletes' educational process and an integral part of the Xavier mission."

The team began the day by running along with the Olympians during the opening ceremonies prior to assistant coach Mike Popejoy giving the welcome. The team then helped out during the events by either encouraging or running along with the Olympians and concluded the day by giving out medals to the athletes.
