Men's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision at George Washington
Feb. 15, 2008
WASHINGTON, D.C - The Xavier men's tennis team opened Atlantic 10 play with a tough 6-1 loss at George Washington Friday afternoon at the Regency Sport & Health Club. The Musketeers fall to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in A-10 action while the Colonials improve to 6-3 on the year and 2-0 in conference play. "This was a disappointing day because we're still having trouble taking advantage of opportunities," said head coach Eric Toth. "We just have to keep working hard to be the team we know we can be." Junior Mike Dieciuc scored the Musketeers' lone point of the match with a hard-fought victory over GW's Mark Doumba, 6-7(5), 7-6(6), 1-0(2), at No. 5 singles. Junior Doug Matthews and sophomore Chris Herrlinger teamed up at No. 1 doubles to down the Colonials' Mustafa Gencsoy and Ryan Hunter, 8-5. Up next for the Musketeers is a trip to Indianapolis, Ind. to square off with the Butler Bulldogs on Wednesday, Feb. 20. First serve is set for 3 p.m. Results
