CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's tennis team defeated the Butler Bruins Saturday at the Mercy Healthplex, 6-1. The Musketeers improve to 4-6 overall for the year.

 

Seniors Brian Schubert and Adam Shaeffer, juniors Doug Matthews and Ra'ees Ismail and sophomore J.T. Torbeck picked up wins in singles for five of Xavier's six points. Matthews defeated Belmont's Lima in the No. 1 singles position.

 

Matthews picked up another win when he teamed up with sophomore Chris Herrlinger to down Belmont's Lima and Gesto 8-3. Freshman Brian Star and Torbeck defeated Zola and Garcia 8-0 while sophomore Anthony Palmentor and senior Brian Quinn downed Schinelli and Manifold 8-1.

 

Up next Xavier hosts the Saint Louis Billikens as they start Atlantic 10 Conference play. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
