April 4, 2008

MONROEVILLE, Pa. - The number two-seeded Xavier men's tennis team took the 4-0 victory Friday over 10th-seeded Saint Louis in the second round of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship held at Club 4 Life. With the win, the Musketeers advance to a semifinal matchup with defending A-10 Champion Charlotte on Saturday, April 5, at 2:00 p.m.

Led by junior Doug Matthews and sophomore Chris Herrlinger, who teamed for an 8-4 victory in No. 1 doubles and followed it with first and second flight victories, the Musketeers will look to reach the championship match for the second year in a row.

"I felt like this was obviously a great win," said head coach Eric Toth. "This win gets us closer to our ultimate goal which is to win the A-10 Tournament. Give credit to Saint Louis, they played well today. We look forward to competing against Charlotte tomorrow."
