Thursday's Game Notes
CINCINNATI - The Xavier University women's basketball team will look to extend its winning streak to eight games when the Musketeers travel to Dayton on Thursday to square-off against the Flyers. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at UD Arena. Fans can listen to the action live on GOXAVIER.com via live internet radio broadcast with Mike Schmaltz on the call.
McGuff at 120
Sixth-year head coach Kevin McGuff's first five seasons at Xavier have been the most productive first five seasons any XU coach has enjoyed. McGuff is the first coach to lead Xavier to five consecutive postseason appearances in his/her first five years at XU and he reached 100 wins in fewer games (149) than any coach in Xavier history. McGuff's record at Xavier now stands at 123-56 and his .687 winning percentage is the highest in XU history.
McGuff Moves Up A-10 Charts
Sixth-year head coach Kevin McGuff is bolting up a couple of lists after leading XU to an 11-3 conference record last season. McGuff is in ninth place on the all-time Atlantic 10 winning percentage list (regular season games only). McGuff has a record of 61-25 in A-10 regular season games since the 2002-03 season for a winning percentage of .709. Joe McKeown (GW) and Dawn Staley (Temple) are the only other two active A-10 coaches with better winning percentages in regular season play (min. 30 wins). McGuff now sits in 14th place, after just five+ seasons, on the A-10 wins list (regular season games only) with 61.

Solid Debuts
Transfers Tudy Reed (Rutgers) and April Phillips (Georgia Tech) made their long-awaited Xavier debuts on December 28 at Akron. Neither Reed (junior) nor Phillips (sophomore) disappointed. Reed scored a career-high 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting while Phillips scored seven points in a one-minute span against the Zips. Xavier is 11-2 since Phillips and Reed became eligible.
The Series vs. the Flyers
The Musketeers are 23-28 all-time vs. Dayton and are 9-18 all-time when playing the Flyers in Dayton. The Musketeers have won nine consecutive contests in the series including four in a row at UD Arena. The last time Xavier lost to Dayton was on January 7, 2003 when the Musketeers dropped an 82-65 decision at UD Arena. Xavier dug itself quite a hole in the series as the Musketeers lost the first 14 games and 17 of the first 18 contests between the two schools. XU has won 13 of the last 16 games in the series and the Musketeers are 22-10 vs. the Flyers since the 1990-91 season.
Making a Point
The play of Xavier's point guards, Alesia Barringer and Special Jennings, has proven critical this season. In XU wins, the duo combines for an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.92 and shoots 29.3 percent from the field. However, in Xavier losses the duo's assist-to-turnover ratio slips to .85 while they shoot a chilly 22.0 percent from the floor.
A-Run Against the A-10
Xavier has won 17 of its last 18 games against Atlantic 10 opponents dating back the 2006-07 season. XU won the last seven regular season games of the 2006-07 season and then won three games against A-10 teams to take home the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship. XU's only loss during the current streak is the 56-46 setback at No. 17 George Washington in this season's A-10 opener on January 6.
The Block Party (Part II)
The Musketeers finished the 2006-07 season fifth in the country at 6.3 blocks per game and Amber Harris was third in the nation with 4.0 blocks per game last season. It is more of the same in 2007-08 as Harris entered the week 13th in the country at 2.8 blocks per game and XU is 13th in the land with a blocked shots average of 5.3. Harris' 2.8 blocks per game leads the Atlantic 10.
Another New Rebounding Record?
Sophomore forward Amber Harris established a new single-season rebounding record when she snared 303 boards during the 2006-07 season. Her record could be short-lived though as freshman center Ta'Shia Phillips is on pace to decimate Harris' single-season mark. Phillips is leading the Atlantic 10 at 11.1 rebounds per game and is on pace to corral 322 rebounds during the 2007-08 regular season.
