Ta'Shia Phillips Establishes New Rebounding Record but XU Falls 68-58 to Dayton

Feb. 27, 2008

Box Score |  Notes

CINCINNATI - Sophomore forward Amber Harris tallied the 23rd double-double of her career and freshman center Ta'Shia Phillips established a new single-season rebounding record but it was not enough as the Xavier University women's basketball team fell, 68-58, to Dayton on Wednesday evening at Cintas Center.  With the loss, Xavier slips to 20-8 on the year and 10-3 in Atlantic 10 play.  Dayton improves to 22-7, 8-5.

Harris scored 17 points and snared 12 rebounds on the night.  She also blocked three shots and dished-out three assists in 35 minutes of action.  Phillips, who corralled her record 304th rebound of the season early in the first half, scored 16 points and was one board shy of double-double.

Sophomore forward April Philips scored nine points and snared 10 rebounds on the night.

Harris made a lay-up to make the score 52-50 at the 5:11 mark but Dayton would answer with a decisive run.  Dayton would score nine-consecutive points over the next 1:40 and seized a 61-50 lead with 3:30 to go in regulation.

The Musketeers would be unable to trim the deficit to any fewer than seven points the rest of the way as Dayton handed XU its eighth loss of the season.

Xavier out-rebounded Dayton by a 45-to-39 count but UD held an 18-to-15 edge in second chance points.  The Flyers were unconscious from deep, connecting on 45 percent of their attempts from long range.

Kiki Lund and Nikki Oakland led the way for UD with 15 points.

Xavier trailed 20-13 a bucket by Dayton's Kendel Ross at the six-minute mark.  However, the Musketeers woke up and responded with a 13-3 run over the next 3:20 and seized a 26-23 lead on a Tudy Reed put back with 2:30 remaining in the first stanza.

The run was keyed by a pair of buckets from Ta'Shia Phillips and a 3-pointer at the top of the key by Maureen Hester.  Dayton would end the half by scoring five straight points though and headed into the locker room up 28-26.

The Musketeers will play their last regular season game when they travel to Olean N.Y. to face the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Sat. March 1. The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
