Championship Bracket

MONROEVILLE, Pa. - The 5th-seeded Xavier women's tennis team has advanced to the semifinals of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship with its 4-2 win over No. 4-seeded Duquesne Friday night at the Club 4 Life. The Musketeers won the doubles point and then fought through tough singles matches to take the win.

"This is a super win for our team and it is great to advance to the semifinals," said head coach Eric Toth following the match. "Our newcomers were outstanding today and really pulled it out for us. The youngsters pulled through in one of the highest pressure situations we've faced all season."

Juniors Kara Courtney and Jeanette Feider teamed up at No. 1 doubles for an 8-5 win over Johanna Bezjak and Rachel McGowan. XU secured the first point of the match as sophomores Jill Ducro and Aylin Seyalioglu defeated DU's Andrea Sailer and Alexandria Albano, 8-1, at No. 3.

In singles action, Feider got past Kristen Swenson at No. 6, 7-6(5), 6-4, and sophomore Kaitlyn Zinn downed Sailer, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 5. Freshman Tifanie Treece went three sets with Bezjak at No. 2 and came out on top, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Xavier moves on to face top-seeded Massachusetts in the semifinals of the Championship. First serve is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19.
