Great Run By Women's Tennis Team Ends In A-10 Title Match
April 20, 2008
MONROEVILLE, Pa. - After winning its way into the 2008 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship Finals, the Xavier women's tennis team fell just short of winning the crown with its 4-0 loss to Temple in the title match. XU finished the season with an overall record of 17-8 after winning eight of its last nine matches. "We just didn't have a high enough standard of play to get past a great team like Temple," said head coach Eric Toth following the match. "You have to bring your A game to a match like this and we didn't quite have what it took. This loss does not take away from the team's season in any way. Our team is young and this raises the bar for our program." Temple jumped out to the early led after winning two of the three doubles match to claim the first point of the contest. The Owls went on to pick up three singles win in straight sets to capture to the title. Results Singles 1. Dina Senkina (TU) vs. Kara Courtney (XU) - 6-4, 4-3 (DNF) 2. Elyse Steiner (TU) def. Tifanie Treece (XU) - 6-3, 6-4
3. Pazderova (TU) def. Kelsey Kinnard (XU) - 6-1, 6-3 4. Christine Clermont (TU) vs. Jill Ducro - 6-4, 2-1 (DNF) 5. Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova (TU) def. Kaitlyn Zinn (XU) - 6-4, 6-0 6. Jeanette Feider (XU) vs. Felicia Frazier (TU) - 6-2, 4-0 (DNF) Doubles |
