2008 A-10 All-Conference Teams

CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's tennis team has placed three team members on the 2008 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams as announced by the conference office Wednesday, April 30. Junior Kara Courtney garnered First Team honors while sophomore Jill Ducro and freshman Tifanie Treece were named to the Second Team.

"Kara had to play the best player from the respective school we were playing each match and she handled it well," said head coach Eric Toth. "Kara was playing her best tennis at the end of the year and hopefully that will be a springboard for her into next season."

This is the first first-team selection for Courtney as she was named to the second team following last season. She compiled a 16-11 overall singles record and an 11-16 doubles mark this year.

"Treece, beng a freshman, is outstanding for her to make the second team," commented Toth. "She put it together at the conference tournament and just played great tennis. You can't say enough good things about Jill Ducro. She had a great year, startin with a nine-match winning streak. She battled injury but she had a good year and this is well deserved."

This is Ducro's and Treece's first all-conference selection. Ducro was twice named Player of the Week this season and finished the year with a team-high tying 22-7 singles record and went a team-best 20-11 in doubles play. In her first year, Treece put together a 13-17 singles record, playing mostly at No. 2, and went 17-17 in doubles action.

Xavier (17-8, 3-1 A-10) finished in second place at the 2008 A-10 Women's Tennis Championship after falling to Temple in the title match.
