Christodoulou Earns Ivy Honor

Nov. 19, 2007

Yale freshman return specialist Gio Christodoulou [Miami, Fla.] earned Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week honors after piling up 232 total return yards and the Bulldogs' only points in a 37-6 loss to Harvard last Saturday.

His 87-yard punt return in the fourth quarter helped the Blue avoid a shutout. It was the second longest punt return in Yale football history and the longest since Rich Diana went 77 yards (no TD) against Connecticut in 1980. Christodoulou's four kickoffs for 144 yards (39-yard average) were the other Yale highlights on a dark day in the Bowl.

The fleet-footed defensive back started for the junior varsity, and returned two punts for scores, until injuries hit the varsity return specialists midway through the season. He finished the season with a 30-yard kickoff return average and an 18-yard punt return mark.
